“Open Faces” Unveils a Fusion of Living Sculptures and Photo Prints at Pandora Galerie, Berlin, Germany — On 13. 9. 2024, artist Louis Fleischauer will unveil his latest exhibition, Open Faces, at the Untergeschoss Der Pandora Galerie in Berlin.
Open Faces transforms oral fixation into a primordial nightmare, confronting the audience with their internal desire to scream. For each piece, Fleischauer transforms his models into living sculptures, using wire, fabric, mud, and body paint. The mouths of these human sculptures are forced open, unable to contain the suppressed agony inside. Only by confronting the trauma hidden within us can we rediscover the will to live and halt our collective descent into despair.
Being alive in this world, we all feel the need to scream; with each scream comes a release, transforming pain into ecstasy. Open Faces captures this transformation.
At the exhibition’s vernissage, these images will come alive in the form of living sculptures as a collaboration with body art performers Scalpel Priestess, Hailim, Blood Honey and Roderich Kollektiv
Exhibition Overview
Open Faces is an immersive experience where Fleischauer’s living sculptures confront viewers with the raw, unfiltered human condition. Each piece is a meticulously crafted fusion of organic materials, human models, and carefully arranged elements that blur the line between the living and the inanimate. The exhibition also features a series of deconstructed photo prints on wood, capturing moments from these ephemeral living sculptures and preserving them in a medium that adds a tactile, timeless quality.
Fleischauer’s work delves deep into themes of psychology and transformation. His living sculptures—human beings adorned with intricate, often unsettling, wearable art—invite the audience to reflect on the masks we wear in society and the true faces hidden beneath them. The accompanying photo prints serve as a haunting reminder of these fleeting moments where fear and desire form a unity.
